All business owners and business leaders should know these 3 words that need to be carefully considered or avoided.
We are excited to bring you another issue of 5 Minute Clarity! Here is a short poem that I penned for you to consider titled “What You Know”.
What you know may be the end of your ability to achieve more.
What you know may prohibit your excellence.
What you know may be blocking you from taking action.
What you know may be killing your goals from being realized.
For many of us, we already know about 90% of everything we need to establish a positive, strong and fruitful direction for our lives. I say 90% because we always have room to learn more and sharpen our skills and actions in order to improve our performance.
When was the last time you heard yourself or someone else say something like “I know that” or “I’ve done that before”?
“I know that” could be the 3 deadliest words you can utter that could be halting your momentum towards climbing and reaching the summit of true excellence.
You already know a lot about many things. You have skills and experience that others would give their left foot for. You are admired by those around you for how easy or effortless you make certain things seem.
The key thought for you to consider today is:
Are you executing what you already know?
It is critical that business owners and business leaders act intentionally each day in this area. I just covered last week in my course the Sword, the Sandal and the Cloth, that executing more of what you already know, more consistently, is how you can reach your destination twice as fast with half the effort.

I can remember hearing the saying, “What you don’t know can’t hurt you”. Interesting to think what you “do” know can hurt you!:) Appreciate the insight!
Debbie,
Just as a double edged sword cuts both ways, the same holds true here. Having knowledge and not using it to execute is no better than he who yearns for the knowledge and wisdom but cannot find it. I go back to the thought that executing small things in a consistent way will lead to extraordinary results over time.
Thank you for stopping by!
[...] another issue of 5 Minute Clarity, we shed light on the decisions that we make. Do you know the 3 words that every business owner and leader need to avoid [...]
Thought-provoking. I think it was Mother Theresa who said, “be faithful in small things, for it is in them that your strength lies.” Clarity and focus (what we know!?) seem elusive–the more we learn, the more we realize what (or some of what) we do not know–but it is the doing consistently what we know that brings results.
Great point on Mother Theresa. She is a very powerful role model for us to follow. I want to add one additional point to what you’re saying:
Sometimes practicing principles consistently is the key to new and growing results. For instance, you may adhere to the principle of continuous learning and action. This would lead a person to always learning and then testing and trying the new knowledge out in order to gain valuable feedback as to what is effective. This is a principle we use to teach students correct martial technique and application. The same is true for many aspects of achieving something worthy of our time in life.
Thank you for sharing Larry!
