Principles of 5 Minute Clarity
- Ask the right question to avoid wasting time on things that don’t matter and divert your focus and attention
- Lack of thinking & planning time is the greatest enemy of entrepreneurs
- Never start any brainstorming or planning task with a blank sheet of paper
- Use a base to leverage your creativity & avoid reinventing the wheel
- Using a template or worksheet allows you to get there twice as fast with half the effort
YEAR IN REVIEW
For many people this past year can be categorized as one of the following:
- Your best year ever
- Your worst year ever
- About the same as other years
The year is almost done or will be done by the time you read this. Too many people rush blindly into the next year by setting hasty New Year Resolutions. These resolutions cause anxiety and harm because they lack the thought and clarity that goes into setting a new path or direction for your life.
You stand on the precipice of a new year in that you can choose a new direction for your life. You can forge a new path by deciding to live in new and more productive ways.
Do you want a sure-fire method for success?
Try this formula:
Review -> Plan -> Do
In order to do this, we must first spend some quality time assessing what the past year has brought us. We need to celebrate the wins, let go of the losses, forgive the hurts and decide what is essential to carry forward. Now is the time for this.
The questions in the worksheet will kick start this process for you today and help you forge a strong, clear path as part of your New Year Resolutions!

I love your first issue of 5 Minute Clarity and look forward already to the next one! I especially like the question about forgiveness. I am assuming leadership of a new team – and taking our organization in new directions – and know there have been many hurtful incidents between some of the members – and I believe forgiveness of past hurts must happen before we can move forward in building an atmosphere of candor and trust. And there are some hurts I must forgive as well. I look forward to coninuing to examine and expand my leadership focus as we move through the year!
THANK YOU!
Thank you Joyce for the great feedback!
I have been where you are several times in assuming leadership of a new team. With the forgiveness element, sometimes, the most powerful thing you can do is forgive them silently without a physical conversation. This empowers you and relieves you to move forward with a more productive mindset. I will have some 5 Minute Clarity leadership topics as well throughout the year so keep an eye out for them.
Let me know if you have more specific leadership questions that I may be able to help with.

Great guide for preparation for a new year! I learned that I often neglected doing/nurturing the things that bring me greatest pleasure while spending great amounts of time on “duties”–professional, church, personal– that, while important, do not always bring joy. This first issue has inspired me to set very direct, measureable goals which have already improved my attitude and happiness in the first week of 2012. Thanks!
Larry – thank you for the great feedback!
Congratulations for setting specific and measurable goals as a result of working through the 5 Minute Clarity issue. Quite often, by re-framing our mission and direction, we enhance and sharpen our focus. This always allows us to zero in on what truly matters. You also took action which is always 80% of success.
Keep the momentum rolling each week throughout this year.
