Focus Friday Quotes

A man who dares to waste one hour of time has not discovered the value of life.

Charles Darwin

I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious.

Vince Lombardi

Your body is like a piece of dynamite. You can tap it with a pencil all day, but you'll never make it explode. You hit it once with a hammer: Bang! Get serious. Do 40 hard minutes, not an hour and half of nonsense. It's so much more rewarding.

Jason Statham

Productive ability is just the ability to take quick and calculated action on all of the opportunities that come to you. That’s really what all the go-getters and all the people that achieve great things in life do. You have opportunities that come your way every day.

For a lot of you, there are tons of opportunities constantly coming your way. You probably sit there at the end of the day saying, “Wow, I’d really like to take advantage of those other two or three things that came across my desk or my phone today. Those are great opportunities, but I’ve got these 10 other things I’m working on.”

If that’s you, I can show you how to get your productive ability up. Really, any major goal can be achieved within an extra hour a day. It’s about the big topics such as health, wealth, career, and relationships that I’m really talking about.

Your productive ability is like a quotient. It's a skill, and one that a lot of people don't think about. People think about their financial capabilities or technical and practical skills, like being really good at math, or highly artistic or creative endeavors—perhaps marketing skills.

Nobody thinks about their productive ability, which is the ability to take quick, calculated action on all opportunities that are always around you. That's where the innovation piece of my business comes in.

Whether it's career innovation or business innovation, all of us have opportunities around us. And I would actually argue that the major challenge today is that you have too many opportunities. Even in making career choices--should I become the director of marketing or the director of research and development, or I should I become a unit manager? With all these options, which career path should I take? And what training programs should I take?

Do you see how it's so easy to just get overwhelmed thinking about all of this stuff?

It’s enough to make people close down. That's where people just get stuck and say, “I'm going to go eat a donut and have a coffee because it's just too much." Or, "I'm just going to check some e-mail and feel like I'm being productive." But really you have opportunities around you. That's where the superstars and the people who climb corporate ladders have a couple of things in common.

Number one is that they do the difficult things that others don't want to do and they get those things done in a really timely fashion, and that's what makes people take notice of them. So this productive ability is your ability to take quick, calculated action on those opportunities that are around you.

So any major goal can be achieved with an extra hour a day, whether it’s health, wealth, a career or relationship. Those are the four big areas that I work with my clients on.

If you want to lose thirty pounds, it can be done in two to three months by an extra hour a day. If you want to become wealthier, you can do that by reading the current investor's magazines and focusing on becoming very knowledgeable about the types of investments you're doing or different practices for your business.

If you want to build your career, there are tons of trade journals and information and courses that you can attend and professional development stuff that you can do, and an hour a day will certainly propel you past your colleagues and the people you're working with.

And as for relationships, it goes back to the old adage that love is not spelt l-o-v-e, it's spelled t-i-m-e. Imagine if you took a relationship that you want to improve. How much better would that relationship be if you took an hour of your day and focused it solely on that person? Calling that person up, talking to them, going for a coffee—whatever the case may be, that relationship will blossom.

So, all those factors flow into raising your productive ability, and becoming the most productive person you know.

Again, if you have any questions, send me an email and I would be happy to talk about it with you.
