Celebrate, Don't Denigrate

Mindset Monday - Episode 3 Transcript

You don't even know you do this.

I bet you don't even know you do this. It happens to you each week and you don't even know it. Mindset Monday, your week begins now.

It's denigrating yourself. What is denigration? While denigration has a few different meanings, the first one is defaming. To defame something is to attack somebody's character or reputation. The person that you attack when you denigrate yourself. It's you the person that you denigrate is you putting you down. The second part about denigration is disparaging and belittling. So really, it means to criticize somebody or something, and it makes something seem unimportant. This is you minimizing all of the efforts that you do each day. It's you being your biggest critic. It's also you making yourself less worthy and less deserving of the things that you want to accomplish.

You can break free.

First thing you need to do is notice your language. Listen and notice the way that you speak about yourself each day. Notice when you minimize yourself or you shrink back out of the spotlight and yield your power to other people.

It could be that you're at a meeting and instead of speaking up and raising your idea, you sit down. It could be that when you're asked to make a contribution and put in some time and give your thoughts and ideas, you walk away. It could mean that when someone wants to recognize you for the brilliance or give you an award, you walk out of the spotlight. Notice when you feel that your efforts just aren't good enough. Notice when you feel that you've tried your best and that it still wasn't good enough. I want you to stop in that moment.

The solution is one thing to use, something called the power of polarity. It's called the power of polarity and polarity is just doing something in an opposite fashion. You can use the power of polarity to transform yourself in the moment when you celebrate yourself.

Celebration has a couple different categories to it. The first one is you mark an occasion where you do something good, great or consistent. The second part of celebrating is your happiness about something that you accomplished. It can usually be a small thing. You don't have to think about the big things. It's always the small things that you should celebrate. It might seem trivial or small to you, but there's power in celebrating all that small stuff because you know what, it adds up to big stuff later on.

The next thing you can do when you celebrate yourself is to praise an action that you took. Celebrate getting your top three priorities crossed off your to do list this week. Celebrate the fact that you exercised this week when you actually felt like sitting on the couch eating potato chips. Celebrate putting in that little tiny extra effort to help someone out this week who needed your help.

All those small little celebrations or small wins will add up and put major points in the win column of life for you.

So this week, I want you to catch yourself doing great things.

You know what will happen for you is that the week will turn out even better than you imagined. This week, take the mindset of celebration into everything that you do.

What will you celebrate each day this week?

Each day this week will provide you many chances to celebrate your actions that will move you closer to what you want to accomplish. Don't denigrate yourself if you miss a step.  When this happens, take a breath and then vow to make the very next step a positive to be celebrated no matter how tiny or microscopic the size of the step is.
