Why You Need an Idea to Action Planner

How many times have you seen an advertisement or a new invention and thought to yourself, man I had that idea 10 years ago?

How many times have you kicked yourself because someone else executed their idea and became largely successful when in fact, you had the same idea too?

Where are all your great ideas sitting right now?

Do you have a central place that you currently house all your great ideas?

If you answered "No" to this, then this is the best place for you to start. At this point, it doesn't really matter where you store your ideas, but that you start collecting them now in a central, easy to refer to place.

If you answered "Yes" to this, then I will challenge to setup an appointment with yourself each week to review and prioritize your ideas. This single one strategy can be a game changer for you if you do it with a level of consistency and at a regular timed interval.

5 Reasons Why You Need an Idea to Action Planner

1. Empty your mind

Ever hear of the music group EnVogue? In 1992, they wrote a song titled: Free Your Mind. The key lyric in the song says:

"Free Your Mind and the Rest Will Follow"

When you have an idea action planner, you can fill it up and empty your mind to do other creative, problem solving activities. Then, when you come back to it, the action planner is ready to help you sort through and prioritize all your ideas to match them up with the right sequence of timing and action to make them come alive.

You will also decrease the amount of stress you have about all your great ideas because you know they are in a holding place ready for when you are ready to get to them.

2. Capture All Ideas Now

I guarantee that you have had a great idea flow through your mind at one point only to be lost because it didn't flow to your hands to write it down. Let me know in the comments below if and when this happened to you last.

We keep pens and paper all around our office and home so that at 2am, an idea can be captured for later processing. When you form the habit of idea capturing, you put yourself in the path of opportunity to happen to you.

Note this key axiom I always share with my coaching clients:

"Small ideas can grow into great ideas when acted upon"

3. Prioritize the Who & Why

Capturing a mediocre idea is not enough to grow it into a great idea. Ideas become great when you add two key ingredients to the mix.

You will need the WHO and WHY to make these ideas happen. Ideas need the help of your genius and other people's muscle and brains (Who) to forge them into great ideas. This happens when you have your ideas captured and ready to share with other smart people who can help you forge your okay idea into a great idea worth pursuing.

Then comes the time WHY the idea should see the light of day. What is the specific outcome (why) for your idea. Why is this idea going to help you, your family, your team or humanity?

It's critical to take the pressure off of yourself to hit a home run when you let your idea loose into the world. Timing and the why of an idea needs several stages of testing and maturation to make this happen.

4. One Place = Better Productivity

I am a huge proponent of one place productivity systems.

Your ideas need the same structure to make them a reality. I encourage you to put all your ideas into an Idea to Action Planner system. This should be a central place that you always go to to house and store your ideas for later processing.

Do you have such a place yet?

If not, keep scrolling below as I have a solution to your problem.

Having your ideas in one place takes the stress off of your brain in that you never have to think of where to put that idea. We want to rid you of the post-it-note style syndrome where those precious ideas can get lost (or stolen). Plus, your brain will know where to direct you when you need to find and work on improving your good idea into a great idea.

5. Boost Your Creative  Power

When you have all your ideas stored in one central place, you tell your brain that you are a responsible idea owner. Your brain will in turn work to keep creating more ideas for you. You will start boosting your creative powers to come up with greater ideas. This is a skill and a talent that has made people like Steve Jobs iconic and so can you develop this creative super power.
